Key Flats
Key Flats are essential when shaped punches and die buttons are used. Otherwise, the designed holes will be different than planned.
For naming the needed key flat, you only have to add the code (e.g. X2) to the call out.
Here’s some facts about key flats:
• Key flats are used for headed punches and all kind of die buttons
• Key flats can be added at the head or can be go the whole length down a punch or die button.
• Standard position of a key flat is 0° (parallel to P dimension)
• Alternate locations are 90°, 180°, or 270° or any other degree based on the customers‘ whish.
• Key flats are always oriented toward the same position – starting at 0°
• Degree required counter-clockwise from 0.
Key flats are available as single flat, double flat or for dowels.

The second flat is always parallel to first flat.

The breadth is determined according to shank diameter, not head diameter.
