When to use Ball Lock

  • High volume production
  • Moderate precision
  • For soft or mild Steel
  • Low or medium speed press operations

Features

Ball Lock punch for light duty have smaller ball.

Ball Lock helps to reduce the down time of dies. The punch is locked into the retainer from beneath and fixed by the ball. When the punch needs to be changed, it can easily be pulled out without dismantling the whole punch-retainer-system.

The mark VISILock* shows you if the Ball Lock stamp is correctly positioned in the retainer. The vertical line on the stamp shaft must be aligned with the central pin hole.

For punches with slug ejection
DAYTON® JEKTOLE®, the punch with slug ejection. Can be locked for sharpening without dismantling of the punch.

DAYTON Keeper Keys are the perfect solution for regrinding.

We etch all punches according to customers' specification.

Characteristics

Benefits

*VISILock Marking on the stamp, which indicates the correct seat in the retainer.

Cut out

If a burr is created on the sides of the ball seat, the cut out avoids difficulties in disassembly.

Ground Ball seat at shaped punches

The ball seat serves as anti-rotation flat and is ground at shaped punches. This achieves accuracy from the ball seat to the shape of 0.02 mm.

Etching

All punches are etched according to customer specifications.

Side vent hole (only in Jektole® punches)

Minimizes the suction at withdrawal that can cause slug pulling. In addition the side vent hole allows using the keeper key to lock the Jektole® in the retracted position.  Thus it is possible to regrind the punch without disassembly and still ensure the correct length and function of the ejector pin.

Maintenance and downtime are significantly reduced.

The „Keeper Key“ is available free of charge at Dayton Progress.

Transition radius

Breaking off the punch is reduced by transition radius (13 mm).

Ejector Pin (Jektole®)

Jektole®, the spring-loaded ejector pin from Dayton reduces slug pulling in most cases. The diameters of the ejector pins are well chosen so that the stability of the punch is not compromised. The ejector pin allows the increase of the punch-to-die clearance, requires less press pressure, minimizes burr formation, and reduces the pressure required to strip the punch. The tool life is significantly increased and the overall punch costs are reduced.

Grinded surface

All DAYTON punches have a surface roughness of 4µm on the punch point, which significantly increases the tool life.

Tolerance and concentricity

DAYTON punches are ground to the following tolerances at the punch point.

Round punch               0/+0,01mm

Concentricity               Ø 0,01mm

Shaped punch              +/-0,01mm

Geometrical tolerance   0,02mm
