#UseCase01: Our composite material (DAYComp) revolutionises

Did you know that small improvements in forming technology can have a huge impact on efficiency and costs? With our new composite material DAYComp, we have achieved just that - and helped a leading Tier 1 automotive supplier solve a massive problem in the process.

The problem: wear and high costs

Machining high-strength steel (material thickness > 3 mm) is a real challenge. Cold forming involves extreme forces that quickly push conventional bronze sliding plates with solid lubricant to their limits. For our customer, this meant that the bronze plates had to be replaced after just 36,100 strokes - with all the associated costs, downtime and maintenance work.

 

The solution: customised innovation

This is where DAYComp comes into play. Together with the customer, we analysed the processes, examined all influencing factors and developed DAYComp as the optimal solution. The result was impressive:

- 177,916 strokes with DAYComp - a 4.9 times longer service life.

- Less wear: after almost 178,000 strokes, the material loss was only 0.1-0.3 mm (compared to 0.81 mm with bronze).

Our customer was able to realise cost savings of over 50% thanks to longer production cycles, less maintenance and shorter downtimes.
